McIlroy, still No. 2 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), had been slumping since winning the Masters and (finally) completing the career grand slam, until a strong T-6 finish in the Travelers Championship. He finished T-47 in the PGA Championship and T-19 in the U.S. Open.
