Sure, the Cubs needed to give up 2024 first-round pick Cam Smith and a couple of other pieces to get what is potentially a one-year rental of Tucker. But they sit first in the NL Central 41 games later, with Tucker serving as one of the betting favorites to win NL MVP. So I don't think the front office is losing any sleep over that one.

Tucker has already swatted 10 homers this year, tied for fourth in the majors. His Statcast page is more red than the tear-filled eyes of the Houston Astros fans looking on from a distance. He really seems to be putting it all together after a bizarre shin injury robbed him of what could have been an MVP-caliber season last year.

The Cubs take on Cal Quantrill today, who's one of the worst pitchers in the majors by a number of metrics. He doesn't strike anyone out, and Quantrill concedes a ton of walks while giving up plenty of homers, all resulting in a hideous 7.11 ERA.

The right-hander is allowing the sixth-hardest average exit velocity among pitchers with at least 100 batted-ball events, and I don't expect that number to come down today against Tucker and Co.
