Norris jumped to the top of the odds leaderboard across our best F1 betting sites after topping the group in FP2, FP3, and qualifying.

Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc - who finished second in qualifying and is also featured in our Austrian Grand Prix predictions - hopes to win his first race of the season. The Ferrari driver and F1 Championship odds contender Norris headline our picks for this morning's race at Red Bull Ring (9 a.m. ET, ESPN).

🏁 Austrian Grand Prix predictions, expert picks & best bets

Editor's note: Picks were made after FP2 and before FP3 and Qualifying.

Our Sean Tomlinson collected ChatGPTs top Austrian Grand Prix AI predictions, and I broke down the Austrian Grand Prix odds earlier this week.

🏆 Pick to win Austrian Grand Prix: Lando Norris ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Best odds: +185 via BetMGM

Norris started the weekend as intended, winning FP2 to make a statement of intent. Norris finished first in Monaco and second at the Spanish Grand Prix before inexplicably running into teammate Piastri during the Canadian Grand Prix.

He also made a costly mistake in qualifying for that race, putting behind the 8-ball from the onset. I'm backing him despite his recent rash of errors, as he's been the fastest driver recently. If he finds a way to eradicate those mistakes, he should take his place at the top of the podium.

In addition, Red Bull Ring is one of the fastest tracks on the circuit, which favors a McLaren car that is unquestionably the best in the competition. I also backed Norris in our Austrian Grand Prix odds and predictions

💎 Best value bet to win Austrian Grand Prix: Max Verstappen ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Austrian Grand Prix Best Bets

Best odds: +300 via BetMGM

Like Norris, Verstappen also looked good in FP2, finishing in third. He was excellent in Montreal, taking second spot behind winner George Russell. And he probably would have won last year's race at Red Bull Ring had it not been for a collision with Norris, which paved the path for a Russell victory.

There is some slight concern in the Red Bull camp, as Verstappen is without his usual race engineer, GianPiero Lambiase, who is missing the event due to personal reasons. However, Lambiase's replacement, Simon Rennie, has worked alongside Verstappen for years.

The four-time defending champion appears undeterred by the change, speaking confidently beforehand about the new temporary partnership.

A $10 winning bet will yield a profit of $30.

🎯 Best long shot to win Austrian Grand Prix: Charles Leclerc ⭐⭐⭐

Best odds: +1600 via BetMGM

Surely, Leclerc will win at least one race this year. That's what I've been telling myself for some time now. Unfortunately, Ferrari lacks the pace to challenge Red Bull, McLaren, or even Mercedes at the top of the totem pole.

That said, he offers the best and only viable long-shot pick. Leclerc finished fifth in FP2 and has been the best driver outside of the top four (Norris, Piastri, Verstappen, and Russell) all season.

If someone other than that quartet wins a race, it will be Leclerc. He finished on the podium in two of the last three races and has been consistent for the most part after a dreadful start to the season.

💰 Best Austrian Grand Prix prop bets & picks at Red Bull Ring

🔥 Best prop bet for Austrian Grand Prix: Lando Norris to win qualifying ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Best odds: +170 via BetMGM ($10 returns $17 profit)

I'm backing Norris to win the race, so it makes sense for him to snatch the pole position in qualifying. Three of the previous five who took the pole in Austria went on to win the race. That would have been four had Verstappen not collided with Norris during last year's edition.

🚀 Best prop bet for Austrian Grand Prix: Will driver who starts in pole win? Yes ⭐⭐⭐

Best odds: -140 via BetMGM ($10 returns $7.14 profit)

Since the F1 returned to Red Bull Ring in 2014, the driver in pole position has won five times in 11 races. That is less than a 50% success rate from pole position, with second, third, and fourth also picking up wins in the previous 11 attempts.

However, three of the last five races were won by the driver in pole position, which would probably have been four had Verstappen and Norris not collided in last year's race.

💡 How to bet on Austrian Grand Prix

When betting on any grand prix, there are many things to consider, some more crucial than others:

  • Follow what happens closely during practice sessions, specifically FP2. FP3 is another important practice session. However, FP2 offers an accurate preview of what to expect in Sunday's Grand Prix before qualifying. You can get excellent value by placing your bets before qualifying, using FP2 as a good case study.
  • While the practice sessions should be used to inform your picks, qualifying is the most important part of the pre-race festivities. You might get better odds picking a driver before qualifying, but it could also make winning much more challenging if qualifying doesn't go well.
  • Don't pay too much attention to FP2. More often than not, it resembles a warmup and doesn't accurately reflect what will happen on race day.
  • Three of the last five drivers to take pole in Austria won the race. It would have probably been four out of five had Verstappen not collided with Norris last year.
