For as impressive a first season as Golden State has had, the expansion team looks like it's hitting the wall. While it kept its head above water initially after losing leading scorer Kayla Thornton (14 PPG) for the year to a knee injury, the Valkyries came crashing down to earth on Sunday against Las Vegas.

The Aces dominated Golden State for four quarters and exposed a defense that had been carrying the Valkyries all year. With Golden State just 5-7 since the start of July, my Aces vs. Valkyries prediction projects Las Vegas to win again - this time by a score of 85-77.

Golden State has been trending in the wrong direction for the last month, going 7-7 ATS after starting 10-4. On the other hand, Las Vegas has been surging. The Aces are 10-7 since June 22 after their ugly start to the season, and have covered the spread in nine of their last 17 games, including on Sunday as a 9.5-point favorite against the Valkyries. 

Although Las Vegas remains just seventh in offensive rating (104.2), it's put up 87-plus points in six of its last nine games, twice scoring over 100 points against Golden State over that stretch. The Valkyries' defense is beginning to flounder. Natalie Nakase's team has dropped to No. 7 in defensive rating (102.7), and it's struggled to contain Wilson and Jackie Young when playing the Aces.

In Las Vegas' last two games against Golden State, Wilson is averaging 24 points and 15 boards, while Young is putting up 25 points and seven assists. With those two at an All-Star level, and Jewell Loyd finally finding her groove, the Valkyries will struggle to score enough to cover. Golden State is putting up the third-fewest points per game in the W (78.1) and has the lowest pace rating (76.1)

Wilson may not win WNBA MVP this season, but her play has not dropped off. The seven-time All-Star is second in the league in points  (21.3) and rebounds per game (9.2), and she's shown no signs of slowing down. Wilson has gone for double-digit boards in six of her last nine games, including twice against the Valkyries.

With Thornton out for the Valkyries, she's Golden State's leading rebounder (7.0 RPG), Wilson should once against dominate the glass for Vegas. Across three games against the Valkyries this season, the former No. 1 pick is averaging 12 boards per game.
