Sparks vs. Storm Prediction, Odds & WNBA Best Bets: Aug. 1

Our Sparks vs. Storm prediction suggests taking the Under on Friday in Climate Pledge Arena.

Our Sparks vs. Storm prediction suggests taking the Under on an inflated total ahead of tonight's battle at 10 p.m. ET (ION) in Climate Pledge Arena.

Los Angeles (11-15) has won five of its last six games, thanks to elite offensive play. But Cameron Brink recently returned to help solve some of the team’s defensive issues. More importantly, Seattle (16-11) is an elite defensive team and should set the tone as a WNBA championship odds contender.

The Storm haven’t lost to the Sparks since 2023, which included their 98-67 win when these two teams met in Los Angeles on June 17. While I expect more defense in tonight’s battle, Seattle should still prevail at home.

Now that the total has climbed to 169.5, I feel comfortable taking the Under, as some of the best sportsbooks still list this line at 168.5. For context, the total was 156 when these two teams met in mid-June.

The Storm have quietly climbed up to second in the league in defensive rating at 97.7, which opens the door for Gabby Williams and Ezi Magbegor to be in the Defensive Player of the Year conversation. Seattle has the best defensive rating in the WNBA since July 1.

Another factor in favor of an Under is that the Storm rank ninth in the league in pace.

The Sparks prefer to play at a faster pace, but I wonder if things will change with the return of Brink. They scored 74 points in her first night back, snapping a five-game win streak.

I’d only take this total down to 168.5, but that shouldn’t be a problem with how the market has treated this matchup.

Seattle star Nneka Ogwumike has averaged 17.4 points per game this season. She’s coming off a 26-point performance against the Connecticut Sun, marking the third time she’s cleared this mark in the four games since the All-Star break.

Given the inflated total, Ogwumike should be able to cash this Over in a Seattle win.
