The Las Vegas Aces (9-11) seek redemption when they host the Golden State Valkyries (10-9) today, but our Valkyries vs. Aces prediction isn't sure that's going to happen. Today's tip-off from Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas is at 4 p.m. ET (CBS).

Golden State clobbered Las Vegas, 95-68, on June 7 to signal that this team needed to be taken seriously in its first year as a franchise. The Aces are 1-point betting favorites to get their revenge, but have fallen out of WNBA championship odds contention.

I don’t expect another blowout, but there is no reason to back Las Vegas over Golden State in this matchup based on what has transpired this season.

The Aces have only defeated the Connecticut Sun since the calendar flipped to July. They have fallen out of the playoff picture and rank eighth in the league with a net rating of -2.2. Oh, and A’ja Wilson is dealing with a wrist injury.

Golden State head coach Natalie Nakase, who previously served as an assistant to Becky Hammon in Las Vegas, has her team ranked No. 2 in defensive rating. The Valkyries surrender the fewest points in the paint.

Even if both teams were in excellent form, the Valkyries might have the matchup advantage. I’ll certainly back them at this price, given how the Aces have looked of late.
