๐Ÿง Game 1 analysis

Oklahoma City is a massive favorite in this series, trading at odds as short as -650 with our best sports betting apps. The talent gap doesn't seem large enough to justify that spread ... until you begin crunching the numbers.

The Thunder have many distinct advantages over Indiana in this series. While the Pacers play at a tempo that causes opponents issues, Oklahoma City faced a comparable speed against Memphis in the first round. Mark Daigneault's men also play a very fast brand of basketball, thriving in transition after forcing turnovers.

Oklahoma City's defense is unlike anything Indiana has seen in these playoffs. The Thunder are physical, and their starting unit is versatile enough to guard one through five as individuals, eliminating any advantages off screens or switches. This makes it incredibly difficult for players like Haliburton to get comfortable, especially one-on-one with Lu Dort.

One team's biggest single advantage in this series is a result of Indiana's poor rebounding. The Pacers ranked 28th in the NBA during the regular season on the glass, and they haven't seen size like OKC this postseason. During the playoffs, the Thunder have been tested against two of the top five rebounding teams in the league and fared well.

Gilgeous-Alexander has been stellar against everyone this year, but especially the Pacers, against whom he's averaged 34 points this year. Haliburton cannot say the same about the Thunder. However, Indiana doesn't need its point guard to score very often to win, as long as he's taking care of the basketball and distributing at a high level.

Credit where credit is due, Rick Carlisle's men do the little things right. If they want a puncher's chance in this series, that'll have to continue against one of the most fundamentally sound teams in the league. Unfortunately for the visitors, they have yet to beat Oklahoma City this season, despite not facing the Thunder at full strength either time.
