US Gaming Produces $71.92 Billion in Revenue Across 2024

Another strong year for our best sports betting sites operating in the United States.
The American Gaming Association (AGA) has released its updated gaming revenue report, including Q4 2024, revealing $18.62 billion in revenue across all gambling verticals. That was a record total in any quarter in US history, and contributed to record breaking revenue of $71.92 billion in 2024.
The 2024 revenue was an increase of 7.5% on 2023, which previously held the record for the most revenue collected in a year.
The breakdown
Of that $71.92 billion, the majority came from land-based gambling. $50.32 billion, or 70%, of the total was generated by land-based casinos and retail sportsbooks. Meanwhile, online gaming brought in $21.54 billion, or 30% of the total revenue.
However, the AGA report shows online gaming is producing more revenues, with that 30% revenue share an increase on the under 25% share the year prior. Additionally, while land-based gaming revenue increased by only 0.6% year-on-year, online gaming revenue increased by 24.6%. The AGA said “revenue growth was driven almost entirely by online betting in 2024.”
Thirteen US states saw the majority of gambling revenue generated by online gaming, including Michigan, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. New Jersey, which is famous for its Atlantic City casinos, saw online casino revenue surpass land-based proceeds for the first time in December 2024.
Other states with predominantly online commercial gambling revenue include Arizona, North Carolina, Tennessee, Wyoming, Connecticut, and Kentucky.
Nevada leads in 2024
Nevada has long been known as the gambling capital of the US thanks to its decades-long monopoly on sports betting and its numerous casinos in Las Vegas. While sports betting has spread across the US since the US Supreme Court struck down the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA), and there are casinos in many other US states, Nevada proved it still ruled the roost with its 2024 gaming revenues.
The state collected $15.6 billion in revenue over 2024, a slight increase of 0.5% from the year before. Even with modest growth, Nevada still collected more than double the revenue of its nearest competitor, Pennsylvania.
Most US states saw gaming revenues increase in 2024, with Pennsylvania, New York, Michigan, Illinois, Massachusetts, Virginia, Connecticut, Maine, Oregon, and Wyoming seeing increases between 10% and 35%.
Nebraska saw a more significant rise in revenues, climbing by over 62% year-on-year. However, the biggest beneficiary year-on-year was DC, with revenues increasing by 201.6%.
DC expanded its gaming market significantly in 2024, allowing commercial operators to provide online sports betting across the district in June 2024. This let new operators like Fanatics launch.
Previously, only one operator partnered with the DC Lottery could provide online sports betting across Washington D.C., first GambetDC, then FanDuel.
