MLB's Opening Day begins with a bang when the New York Yankees host the Milwaukee Brewers at 3:05 p.m. ET today (ESPN) from Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.

As we'll do throughout the season for one of baseball's biggest teams, we're exploring the Yankees moneyline odds today and determining whether you should bet on them to beat the Brewers on Opening Day.

New York will send Carlos Rodon to the hill to square off with Freddy Peralta, but which team's bats will get hot to start the campaign?

Unsurprisingly, the Yankees vs. Brewers game is generating the most action at BetMGM, and New York is getting the most moneyline bets. The Detroit Tigers (+140), Boston Red Sox (-120), New York Mets (+110), and Philadelphia Phillies (-155) round out the top five in the latter category.

🎯 Will the Yankees win on Opening Day?

It's Opening Day, which always makes handicapping games a bit tricky. However, I am seeing a price on the Yankees moneyline that intrigues me enough to pick a side.

Almost all of our best MLB betting sites have the Yankees' moneyline hovering around -150 or shorter. Pinnacle, which features one of the most respected trading teams in the sports betting industry, has it at -150 after opening at -148.

However, we see that FanDuel is on a bit of an island at -144. This is a very solid price in comparison to what we're seeing elsewhere, and I assume it's an overcorrection after FanDuel opened with the Yankees' moneyline odds at -164. Let's take advantage of that pricing mistake, as this provides us with the best edge on either team to win outright in this game.

💪 Brewers vs. Yankees pitching matchup tonight

Carlos Rodon (2024 stats): 16-9, 3.96 ERA, 1.22 WHIP

Freddy Peralta (2024 stats): 11-9, 3.68 ERA, 1.21 WHIP

I don't love either pitcher in this matchup, as Rodon was significantly worse last year than his 3.96 ERA suggests, and Freddy Peralta also had some good batted-ball luck, and his strikeout numbers dipped from the previous season.

Both of these pitchers have been steadily declining for the last couple of seasons after serving as two of the very best pitchers in baseball in 2021.

Based on that information and the fact that managers are quicker to pull their starters during the first turn through the rotation to begin a season, I imagine we'll see the bullpens get involved early in this one.
