Demi Moore Earns "Newfound Respect" Despite Oscars Defeat, Says PR Expert

Sunday night’s Oscars provided plenty of dramatic moments, from Demi Moore’s surprise loss in the Best Actress category, to Adrien Brody’s all-round eventful evening.
And in the aftermath of the biggest night of awards season, leading PR expert Lynn Carratt, with over 20 years experience in showbiz, shares her thoughts on all the highlights and lowlights of the glitzy event.
Speaking to Sportsbook Review, Carratt explains how The Substance star Moore has ‘reinvigorated’ her career in the acclaimed horror movie role, despite missing out on the gong, and reveals how Timothée Chalamet has clearly demonstrated the ‘seriousness’ of his relationship with Kylie Jenner by bringing her along to the ceremony and ‘not shying away from PDA’.
Elsewhere, she touches on the significance of Karla Sofía Gascón’s surprise attendance, as well as her reaction to being roasted by host Conan O’Brien, and snubbed by co-star Zoe Saldana in her speech after winning Best Supporting Actress.
Here's a look at Carratt's analysis of a memorable night at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood:
Demi Moore earns ‘newfound respect’ with The Substance role
"Demi Moore demonstrated true professionalism and class following her loss at the Oscars.
"Despite being a favorite to win Best Actress for her acclaimed performance in ‘The Substance’, she lost out to 25-year-old Mikey Madison. While Demi was visibly emotional, she remained composed and showed grace. It's admirable to see such an experienced actress support young talent. Although Demi hasn't won an Oscar in a career spanning four decades, neither has Tom Cruise, proving that even Hollywood legends experience setbacks.
"I'm sure Demi was disappointed, but she's had a successful award season, winning a Golden Globe and a SAG Award. There will be debate about the Oscar going to a much younger actress, but age isn't a factor. Jessica Tandy won at 80, so Demi still has plenty of time. Demi's performance in ‘The Substance’ has earned her newfound respect and reinvigorated her career, which will likely lead to future Oscar-worthy roles.
"Despite competing against Mikey Madison the pair have developed a friendship during the awards season and I’m sure Mikey will now be turning to Demi for advice, Demi has respect for her peers. It will be exciting to see what Demi does next."
Timothée ‘signifies seriousness of relationship’ with Kylie Jenner through Oscars debut
"As expected, Kylie Jenner skipped the red carpet on her return to the 2025 awards season, likely to avoid drawing excessive attention as it was Timothée's big night, being nominated for his second Oscar.
"Timothée instead walked the red carpet with his biggest supporter - mum Nicole, but met-up with Kylie inside and the pair appeared very close inside the ceremony, not shying away from PDA. Kylie looked stunning in a black dress, a stark contrast to Timothée's yellow suit. Kylie's debut was a big deal for her, as the Oscars is one ceremony not to be infiltrated by reality TV stars and influencers.
"Timothée taking her as his date signifies the seriousness of their relationship. The couple never pose together on the red carpet, and despite rumors of being together since April 2023, they've kept their relationship relatively private. They seem on track to be Hollywood's next power couple, always supportive of each other's careers. They're strategic about public appearances, not wanting their relationship to overshadow their individual work.
"Despite Kylie's past openness about her life, she's keeping this relationship private, likely due to the perils of public relationships. They seem to be in it for the long haul. While it would be unwise not to leverage their combined star power, they may not collaborate directly in reality TV. However, I could see them doing modeling projects together for a major fashion house like Prada or Givenchy.
"Ultimately, they are respected power players, and if their relationship continues, their brand will only grow stronger."

Adrien Brody’s night is an eventful one - from start to finish
"From an unexpected kiss with Halle Berry on the red carpet, echoing their iconic moment in 2003, to a playful chewing gum toss toward his wife Georgina Chapman ahead of his acceptance speech, the Oscars was nothing short of eventful for Adrien Brody from start to finish.
"Brody – who won for his performance as László Tóth in ‘The Brutalist’, an architect striving to rebuild his life in America – kicked off the evening with an unexpected red carpet moment when Berry turned the tables on him - after he famously kissed her on stage following his win for The Pianist. And while the moment seemed to amuse his wife, who stood beside them and even embraced Berry afterward, I can’t help but wonder what she truly thought away from the glare of the cameras. Watching your husband share a moment like that with one of the world’s most stunning women can’t be easy - but credit to Georgina for appearing to take it all in stride!
"With Berry making sure to get the last word in on the red carpet, Brody proved later in the night that he wasn’t about to be cut off either. During his speech, in which among other things he thanked his wife, the orchestra attempted to play him off. Brody, however, wasn’t having it, quickly shutting down the music to finish what he had to say. And who could blame him? He hadn’t even thanked his parents yet! For many actors, winning an Oscar is a once-in-a-lifetime moment - though for Brody, he made sure to remind the audience that this wasn’t his first rodeo. These stars dedicate years to their craft, and when their moment finally arrives, they deserve the time to express their gratitude.
"All in all, Brody experienced the full range of emotions on Oscars night, delivering drama both on and off-screen. And now that Berry has finally had her revenge, let’s hope the actor manages to avoid any more unexpected surprises at future Academy Awards - something I’m sure his wife would certainly appreciate!"
Karla Sofía Gascón attends - but skips red carpet
“Karla Sofía Gascón has found herself in hot water over recent weeks over controversial tweets and other social media posts resurfacing. The ‘Emilia Pérez’ star was an unexpected attendee at the ceremony last night, despite skipping the Critics Choice Awards, the BAFTAs, and the SAG Awards, and it’s no surprise she was a no-show on the red carpet, which likely would have led to further media and crowd backlash. It comes after Netflix quickly distanced itself from the star of the movie musical, who has been erased from the film’s promo material. It’s hard to know what her next move will be, as she has shut down all her social accounts and shunned press interviews since the scandal broke, and casting directors will be reluctant to bring her on-board onto new projects as a result, so we are likely to see her continue to lie low for a while.”
Conan O'Brien doesn’t hold back during his opening monologue
"Host Conan O’Brien made sure his brutal opening monologue was one of the highlights of an otherwise fairly mundane Oscars.
"One of the more shocking moments of his speech was a direct roast of Gascon, who was sitting looking very awkward in the crowd. At the mention of her name, she put up her hands in prayer towards the host, and her response to the digs show how surprised she likely was to be poked fun at in such an explicit way.
"It’s not uncommon for hosts to take things quite far in their monologues, but Gascon was clearly shocked last night, and probably thought she was safely blending into the crowd."
Controversy has taken its toll on the Emilia Pérez cast - but Zoe Saldana didn’t let it taint her win
"Zoe Saldana gave a very emotional speech last night after scooping the Best Support Actress gong, but failed to make reference to her controversial co-star.
While some have questioned the omission, it is obvious Saldana probably didn’t want her big moment tainted by the ongoing backlash surrounding Gascón, and it was obvious how much it meant to her as she shouted out various collaborators and family members through tears.
"The whole press run of ‘Emilia Pérez’ has clearly taken its toll on the rest of the cast in recent weeks, which might explain some of the emotion we saw from Saldana last night. However, she did thank the whole of the movie’s cast, likely in an effort to keep things positive and inclusive, and not add any further fuel to the fire."
Meghan Markle skips Oscars – and misses a clever PR opportunity ahead of Netflix release
Carratt addressed the possibility of Markle and Prince Harry attending the festivities in her pre-Oscars analysis – but ultimately, the power couple opted to skip the event for the second year in a row.
"Meghan and Harry are no strangers to the red carpet or awards season and have both attended major ceremonies like the BAFTAs in previous years. It was previously rumored that the Academy Awards had reached out to invite the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to attend the Oscars last year, but, despite the rumors, the pair were a no-show. Their speculative appearance was criticized, with Meghan and Harry having no real reason to attend at the time, and many viewed that it wouldn’t have been great optics to see the duo rubbing shoulders with Hollywood’s finest.
"Focusing on her own brand of late, Meghan’s new Netflix release, 'With Love, Meghan,' is imminent and is set to hit the streaming platform on March 4 - two days after the Oscars take place. The Academy Awards red carpet could (have been) the perfect place for Meghan to plug her latest project, especially with the film featuring many of her A-list pals from her days on screen.
"Her appearance at the Oscars - the pinnacle of awards season - would definitely have (had) people talking, putting all eyes on her and generating widespread attention at a key moment for her. With only one project left as part of her and Harry’s five-year deal with Netflix, attending the Oscars would (have been) a clever PR move by Meghan to boost viewing figures and ensure these final projects are a success. It would (have shown) that not only is she focused on building her own brand away from the royals - especially if she (had attended) solo - but (also made) a statement that she has every intention of reinserting herself back into the world of entertainment in a nod to her past life."
