🏀 NCAA Tournament scoring leaders

NOTE: Bolded players are still in the tournament heading into the Sweet 16.

  • 1. John Tonje (Wisconsin): 52 points
  • 2. Pharrel Payne (Texas A&M): 51 points
  • 3. Chaz Lanier (Tennessee): 49 points
  • 4. Walter Clayton Jr. (Florida): 46 points
  • 5. L.J. Cryer (Houston): 45 points
  • 6. Tyrese Proctor (Duke): 44 points
  • 7. Trey Kaufman-Renn (Purdue): 43 points
  • 8. Curtis Jones (Iowa State): 43 points
  • T-9. Jamiya Neal (Creighton): 42 points
  • T-9. Jackson Shelstad (Oregon): 42 points
  • T-9. Bennett Stirtz (Drake): 42 points

Wisconsin's Tonje and Texas A&M's Payne are the only two players to surpass the 50-point mark thus far. Tennessee's Lanier and Florida's Clayton Jr. are knocking on the door with 49 and 46 points, respectively, and will reach that mark barring sluggish Sweet 16 showings.

Meanwhile, Duke is represented inside the top 10, but not by the name many would expect. Proctor lands sixth on the list with 44 points through two games, a whole 12 above Cooper Flagg. The freshman phenom only has 32 points thus far, but he's still the March Madness MVP odds favorite.

đŸ”ĸ NCAA Tournament assist leaders

  • 1. Elliot Cadeau (North Carolina): 20 assists
  • 2. Ryan Nembhard (Gonzaga): 19 assists
  • 3. Zakai Zeigler (Tennessee): 18 assists
  • 4. Elijah Hawkins (Texas Tech): 17 assists
  • T-5. Steven Ashworth (Creighton): 13 assists
  • T-5. Sean Pedulla (Ole Miss): 13 assists
  • T-5. Labaron Philon (Alabama): 13 assists
  • T-5. Mark Sears (Alabama): 13 assists
  • T-9. Nique Clifford (Colorado State): 12 assists
  • T-9. Donovan Dent (New Mexico): 12 assists
  • T-9. Kasparas Jakucionis (Illinois): 12 assists
  • T-9. Bennett Stirtz (Drake): 12 assists

The top two assist leaders at the NCAA Tournament come from teams that have already been eliminated. North Carolina's Cadeau (20) and Gonzaga's Nembhard (19) lead the way through the opening weekend, with the former being the only player to crack 20 in just two games.

It's unlikely Cadeau falls far, even when he's inevitably dethroned. One of the active players will likely take his place atop the leaderboard with the eventual champion having four more games. However, seeing as Cadeau has an eight-assist lead on those toward the bottom of the top 10, his spot should be relatively safe.

⛹ī¸â€â™‚ī¸ NCAA Tournament rebound leaders

  • T-1. Johni Broome (Auburn): 23 rebounds
  • T-1. Trey Kaufman-Renn (Purdue): 23 rebounds
  • T-1. JT Toppin (Texas Tech): 23 rebounds
  • T-1. Amari Williams (Kentucky): 23 rebounds
  • 5. Tobe Awaka (Arizona): 22 rebounds
  • T-6. Nate Bittle (Oregon): 21 rebounds
  • T-6. Derik Queen (Maryland): 21 rebounds
  • T-8. Vladislav Golden (Michigan): 20 rebounds
  • T-8. Julian Reese (Maryland): 20 rebounds
  • T-8. Christian Shumate (McNeese): 20 rebounds
  • T-8. Danny Wolf (Michigan): 20 rebounds

The rebounds leaderboard is one of the three statistical categories highlighted that is dominated by "active" players. This trend perhaps reinforces the importance of rebounding in settings such as the NCAA Tournament.

Broome, Kaufman-Renn, Toppin, and Williams lead the way with 23 boards heading into the Sweet 16. Every player inside the top-10 still has the opportunity to climb except for McNeese's Shumate, who tied for eighth with 20 rebounds in games against Clemson and Purdue.
