NFL Combine 40-Yard Dash Predictions, Odds & Props: Who Will Run the Fastest 40-Yard Dash?

No event at the NFL Scouting Combine electrifies fans quite like the 40-yard dash, and last year’s showcase was unforgettable, with Xavier Worthy shattering John Ross’ record by blazing a 4.21.
This year, the NFL combine 40-yard dash predictions and odds are headlined by two SEC speedsters - Georgia’s Arian Smith and Texas’ Isaiah Bond - as they race for the fastest time at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
Our NFL combine predictions dive into whether one of them will clock the fastest time and, more importantly, if either can surpass Worthy’s record, setting the internet on fire in the process.

Here are the latest NFL combine odds at FanDuel Ontario as of Feb. 26
🥇 Fastest 40-yard dash favorites 🥇
- Arian Smith, WR, Georgia: +300
- Isaiah Bond, WR, Texas: +340
- Darien Porter, CB, Iowa State: +750
- KeAndre Lambert-Smith, WR, Auburn: +1100
- Tez Johnson, WR, Oregon: +1100
- Jimmy Horn Jr., WR, Colorado: +1200
- Billy Bowman Jr., SAF, Oklahoma: +2200
- Malaki Starks, SAF, Georgia: +2200
- Maxwell Hairston, CB, Kentucky: +2400
- Bhayshul Tuten, RB, Virginia Tech: +2600
🏆 Pick to run fastest 40-yard dash: Arian Smith (+300) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
It's hard to bet against Smith running the fastest 40-yard dash. His draft stock is built around his blazing speed, after all. He was the Bulldogs' leading receiver last season, with his track speed helping him average 19.9 yards per reception in Athens.
Smith was a dominant track athlete in high school, winning a championship in the 200-meter; he ran track at Georgia, too. He clocked a 10.10 time in the 100-meter for the Bulldogs, which tops Worthy's best time of a 10.65 in high school.
Even with a $10 bet on Smith paying just a $30 profit, I think he's the best choice. However, I'd also consider betting on Iowa State's Darien Porter.
The wide receiver convert had a breakout season in Ames playing cornerback this past year and was the fastest player at the Senior Bowl last month. Porter hit a top speed of 22.17 MPH in Mobile, per Zebra Technologies.
💎 Best value bet to run fastest 40-yard dash: Bhayshul Tuten (+2600) ⭐⭐⭐
If you don't want to back Smith, I'd recommend backing Porter as your second option. But if you're looking for longer odds, both Virginia Tech's Bhayshul Tuten and Dorian Strong are worth considering at +2600.
Tuten has ridiculous burst on tape and the North Carolina AT&T transfer has reportedly run a 4.32 40 before at over 210 pounds, so you've got to think after a few weeks of combine training he can clock an even better time.
A potential top 100 pick, Tuten's speed helped him finish 10th in the country in 15-plus-yard runs last season (21), per PFF. Meanwhile, Strong had the fourth-fastest speed at the Senior Bowl (21.36).

🎯 Best long shot to run fastest 40-yard dash: LaJohntay Wester, Colorado (+4800) ⭐⭐
There's several interesting options with longer than +4000 odds to run the fastest 40 time. Washington State's Kyle Williams (+4200) had the third-fastest top speed at the Senior Bowl (21.36) and Louisville's Quincy Riley (+4200) had the 11th-fastest (20.41).
But with Colorado's Travis Hunter not being an option at our best sports betting sites to run the fastest 40, his former teammate LaJohntay Wester is an interesting option. Though Wester's 3-cone could be what creates the most draft buzz for him, he was a walking big-play for Shedeur Sanders and the Buffaloes last season.
Wester's ability to accelerate in a flash allowed him to average the fourth-most YAC per reception in the Big 12 last year (7.1), and he's previously been clocked at a 4.38 40. His performance at the East-West Shrine Bowl helped create buzz when he had the highest max acceleration of any offensive player.
40-yard dash AI picks & predictions for NFL combine
We asked ChatGPT, the popular chatbot from OpenAI, to offer its best AI prediction for the fastest 40-yard dash - including its projected time for that player. ChatGPT is a large language model and is not specifically designed for sports betting predictions.
🤖 ChatGPT's pick to run the fastest 40-yard dash: Arian Smith (4.22)
Considering these prospects, Arian Smith stands out as the most likely to record the fastest 40-yard dash at this year's combine. A projected time for Smith would be approximately 4.22 seconds.
- Smith’s combination of elite track speed, acceleration off the line, and past verified times in the 100-meter dash make him the most explosive prospect in this year’s 40-yard dash field
- His ability to maintain top-end speed over longer distances suggests he has the straight-line burst needed to challenge the all-time record.
- Other prospects ChatGPT considered: Texas' Isaiah Bond, Iowa State's Darien Porter, Oregon's Tez Johnson, and Colorado's Travis Hunter
Smith's track background and previous performances suggest he could potentially match or even surpass the current record of 4.21 seconds set by Xavier Worthy in 2024.
NFL combine 40-yard dash odds: Fastest wide receiver (no Travis Hunter)
- Arian Smith, Georgia: -105
- Isaiah Bond, Texas: +130
- Jimmy Horn Jr., Colorado: +750
- Tez Johnson: +1100
- KeAndre Lambert-Smith, Auburn: +1500
- LaJohntay Wester, Colorado: +1500
- Jalen Royals, Utah State: +2100
- Jacolby George, Miami: +2900
- Emeka Egbuka, Ohio State: +3100
- Luther Burden III, Missouri: +3100
🏆 Wide receiver to run fastest 40-yard dash: Arian Smith (-105) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Smith is the obvious choice here, which is why his odds imply a 51.22% probability he'll run the fastest 40 among wide receivers. Bond is also a strong option to be the fastest of the group; he won the state title in the 100-meter in high school with a 10.51.
Smith, Bond, and Wester are the players I'm eyeing. But one other longer shot to keep an eye on is Iowa State's Jaylin Noel (+9500). He had the sixth-fastest top speed at the Senior Bowl (20.77).

NFL combine 40-yard dash odds: Fastest running back
- Dylan Sampson, Tennessee: +170
- Bhayshul Tuten, Virginia Tech: +300
- TreVeyon Henderson, Ohio State: +430
- LeQuint Allen, Syracuse: +900
- Jaydon Blue, Texas: +1100
- RJ Harvey, UCF: +1100
- Brashard Smith, SMU: +1500
- Omarion Hampton, North Carolina: +2600
- Marcus Yarns, Delaware: +3700
- Jordan James, Oregon: +6000
🏆 Running back to run fastest 40-yard dash: Bhayshul Tuten, Virginia Tech (+300) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
This has Tuten written all over it, and I'm surprised he has longer odds than Tennessee's Dylan Sampson. While Sampson certainly has legit burst, and ran a 10.48 in the 100-meter in high school, Tuten's breakaway speed on tape is ridiculous.
The Hokies' star also put up a 7.03 in the 60-meter dash in high school, so you know he's a proven track athlete, too. A longer shot to watch is SMU's Brashard Smith.
NFL combine 40-yard dash odds: Fastest defensive back
- Darien Porter, Iowa State: +220
- Billy Bowman Jr., Oklahoma: +290
- Nick Emmanwori, South Carolina: +430
- Malaki Starks, Georgia: +650
- Andrew Mukuba, Texas: +950
- Kitan Crawford, Nevada: +1200
- Jaylin Smith, USC: +1500
- Dorian Strong, Virginia Tech: +1500
- Maxwell Hairston, Kentucky: +1500
- Quincy Riley, Louisville: +2500
🏆 Defensive back to run fastest 40-yard dash: Darien Porter, Iowa State (+220) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
While this defensive back group is going to have several players flying, I think Porter is the obvious choice. The Cyclones' top cornerback was a star track athlete in high school and became the first Iowa prep athlete to run sub 47 seconds in the 400-meter dash with his 46.99 time.
Before becoming a full-time cornerback and putting together a breakout season, his speed helped him become a special teams demon. He blocked four punts and a field goal at Iowa State.
Another player to watch is USC's Jaylin Smith, who had the second-fastest top speed at the Senior Bowl after Porter at 21.61 MPH.

NFL combine 40-yard dash odds: Fastest tight end
- Oronde Gadsden II, Syracuse: +155
- Brant Kuithe, Utah: +340
- Bryson Nesbit, North Carolina: +340
- Harold Fannin Jr., Bowling Green: +450
- Mason Taylor, LSU: +450
- CJ Dippre, Alabama: +1900
- Jalin Conyers, Texas Tech: +1900
- Jake Briningstool, Clemson: +7500
- Luke Lachey, Iowa: +7500
- Terrance Ferguson, Oregon: +7500
🏆 Tight end to run fastest 40-yard dash: Harold Fannin Jr., Bowling Green (+450) ⭐⭐
If Michigan's Colston Loveland were healthy enough to participate in the on-field portion of the NFL combine, he would be my bet as the fastest tight end. With Loveland out, Syracuse's Oronde Gadsden II is the favorite, which isn't a surprise considering he's closer to a wide receiver than he is a true tight end.
Gadsden's odds are too short for my liking at our best sportsbooks after how stiff he looked during practices at the East-West Shrine Bowl. Instead, I'm taking a record-setting tight end from the MAC.
Sure, Harold Fannin Jr.'s got a bit of a strange wobble to him when he runs, but there's no denying he's one of the most explosive playmaking tight ends in the draft. Fannin led all tight ends in yards per route run last season (3.77) and hit the fastest top speed among tight ends at the Senior Bowl (19.63).
NFL combine 40-yard dash odds: Will the 40-yard dash record be broken?
- Yes: +800
- No: -1800
For as fast as Smith, Bond, and Porter are, I don't think anyone will be breaking Worthy's record from last season. With that said, a $10 winning bet on no player breaking the record pays just a $0.56 profit, so if you're betting into this market you may as well bet on the record being broken.
Best odds: Yes (bet $10 to win $80)

NFL combine 40-yard dash odds: Fastest 40-yard dash time
- Faster than 4.255 seconds: +110
- Slower than 4.255 second: -140
Rather than betting on the 40-yard dash record not to be broken with the -1800 odds, this market at DraftKings Ontario is a far better play. Realistically, if you're adamant that no player will touch Worthy's record, then you're probably fairly confident nobody will reach Ross' old record of 4.22.
Since 1999, only five players have run faster than 4.26 at the NFL combine - Worthy, Ross, Kalon Barnes (4.23), Rondel Menendez (4.24), and Chris Johnson (4.24). So I don't think Smith, Bond, Porter, or anyone else is set to run sub-4.23.
Best odds: Slower than 4.255 (bet $10 to win $7.14)
