π Pick to run fastest 40-yard dash: Arian Smith (+300) ββββ

I've already broken down every aspect of the 40-yard dash with my picks to win, my favorite long shot, and my best bet to run the fastest 40 at multiple positions.
Here's a sneak peek at why I'm backing Georgia's Arian Smith (+300) to run the fastest 40-yard dash:
"Smith was a dominant track athlete in high school, winning a championship in the 200-meter; he ran track at Georgia, too. He clocked a 10.10 time in the 100-meter for the Bulldogs, which tops Worthy's best time of a 10.65 in high school."

NFL combine predictions: Over/Under in each event
Here are the latest NFL combine odds at DraftKings Ontario as of Feb. 26.
π¨ Fastest 40-yard dash time
- Faster than 4.255 seconds: +110
- Slower than 4.255 second: -140
- ChatGPT's prediction for the fastest 40-yard dash: Arian Smith, WR, Georgia (4.22)
Although I think Smith, Texas' Isaiah Bond, and Iowa State's Darien Porter could all approach clocking 4.22 40-yard dashes, it's unrealistic to believe any player will run as fast as John Ross did when he set the record that Worthy broke last year.
Only five players have ever run faster than a 4.26 at the NFL Scouting Combine since 1999 - Worthy, Ross, Kalon Barnes (4.23), Rondel Menendez (4.24), and Chris Johnson (4.24). I just can't buy into a player hitting Ross' number this weekend, and these are surprisingly reasonable odds.
Best bet: Slower than 4.255 (-140 via DraftKings) | Bet $10 to win $7.14
πͺ Most bench reps
- Over 36.5: -120
- Under 36.5: -110
- ChatGPT's prediction for the most bench press reps: Elijah Simmons, DL, Tennessee (41 reps)

If Middlebury offensive lineman Thomas "The Tank" Perry wasn't snubbed of an NFL combine invite, I think we'd be dealing with an obvious choice for hitting the Over on 36.5 reps (he can put up 380 for 12). Still, a player has registered at least 37 reps in each of the last two years, including Beaux Limmer's 39 last year and Andrew Vorhees' 38 two years ago while dealing with a torn ACL.
Since the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine (and excluding 2021 due to it being canceled because of the pandemic), at least one player has tallied 37 reps at five of the last six events. A few players could go Over 36.5, including Simmons, Indiana's CJ West, Ohio State's Tyleik Williams, Missouri's Armand Membou, North Dakota State's Grey Zabel, South Carolina's Torricelli Simpkins III, and Sacramento State's Jackson Slater.
Best bet: Over 36.5 (-120 via DraftKings) | Bet $10 to win $8.33
β¬οΈ Highest vertical jump
- Higher than 43.75 inches: -120
- Lower than 43.75 inches: -110
- ChatGPT's prediction for the highest vertical jump: Travis Hunter, WR/CB, Colorado (42 inches)
Just eight players have hit a vertical jump of Over 43.75 inches since 2009, and only two have done it since 2020 (Donovan Peoples-Jones and Quan Martin). So while there are several players who could threaten to hit the Over, recent history says it won't happen.
While I'm being a naysayer, South Carolina's Nick Emmanwori is an absolute freak show and has hit a 42-inch vertical in the past. So I wouldn't be surprised if he can push it to 44 in Indianapolis. Hunter, Smith, TCU's Savion Williams, Notre Dame's Beaux Collins, and Oklahoma's Billy Bowman Jr. are others to watch.
Best bet: Lower than 43.75 inches (-110 via DraftKings) | Bet $10 to win $9.09
β© Longest broad jump
- Longer than 138.5 inches: -115
- Shorter than 138.5 inches: -115
- ChatGPT's prediction for the longest broad jump: Travis Hunter, WR/CB, Colorado (138 inches)

Unlike the vertical jump, there's a history of this number being topped in the broad jump pretty consistently. Since 2013, 13 players have gone Over 138.5 inches in the broad jump, including Tyler Owens falling just short of Bryon Jones' record of 12 feet and three inches last season.
At least one player has hit Over 138.5 inches in the broad jump pretty consistently, as it's been accomplished in seven of the last 11 combines. Emmanwori holds a chance to do it, as well as Hunter, Smith, and Porter.
Best bet: Longer than 138.5 inches (-115 via DraftKings) | Bet $10 to win $8.70
π Fastest 3-cone drill
- Fastest than 6.555 seconds: -115
- Slower than 6.555 seconds: -115
- ChatGPT's prediction for the fastest 3-cone drill: Travis Hunter, WR/CB, Colorado (6.65)

The line for the 3-cone drill is set a little lower than expected, especially with how wildly inconsistent 3-cone times in Indianapolis have been over the last few NFL Scouting Combines. Fewer wide receivers are running sub-7.00 seconds, partly because the number of wideouts participating in the event has dropped while they focus on prepping for the 40-yard dash.
Since 2011, 23 players have run 6.55 or faster in the 3-cone, but it's happened just once since 2020 (Zyon McCollum's 6.48 in 2022). The fastest times last year belonged to Kamari Lassiter (6.62) and Ricky Pearsall (6.67), who were the only players to go under 6.7. The year before that only Jaxon Smith-Njigba (6.57) and JuJu Brents (6.63) were sub-6.7.
I don't see a similar result happening this year, but Michigan's Will Johnson and Georgia's Malaki Starks are the two who could clock the best times.
Best bet: Slower than 6.555 seconds (-115 via DraftKings) | Bet $10 to win $8.70
π₯ Fastest 20-yard shuttle
- Fastest than 3.955 seconds: -115
- Slower than 3.955 seconds: -115
- ChatGPT's prediction for the fastest 20-yard shuttle: Travis Hunter, WR/CB, Colorado (4.00)
Since 2020, only Smith-Njigba and McCollum have put up sub-3.955-second 20-yard shuttles at the NFL Scouting Combine. Similar to the 3-cone, fewer players have been participating, which decreases the chances of a player running fast enough to hit the Over here. It's happened just four times in the last six combines.
There just isn't much value in betting on a player running faster when so few are even bothering to participate in the drill. Only one player ran faster than sub-4.00 seconds last year in the 20-yard shuttle (Myles Harden's 3.98), and just five posted a better than sub-4.10 time.
This is another event in which Johnson, Hunter, or Starks could prove me wrong though, I expect those three to put up elite agility numbers.
Best bet: Slower than 3.955 (-115 via DraftKings) | Bet $10 to win $8.70
π NFL combine records: Will any NFL combine records be broken?
While Worthy did break the 40-yard dash record last season, I doubt any of the records will be touched at this year's NFL Scouting Combine. Also, betting $10 on the -1800 odds for each event's record to stand nets just a $0.56 profit.
Unless you truly believe one of the records will be broken, this isn't a market worth betting into at our best sports betting apps. Instead, target the Over/Under odds in each category, which are far more profitable regardless of which side you bet.
Here are the latest NFL combine record odds at FanDuel Ontario as of Feb. 26.
