Avalanche vs. Maple Leafs Odds, NHL Player Props & Score Predictions Tonight: March 19

The Colorado Avalanche have won eight of the last nine games, but could Wednesday's game in Toronto be a letdown spot for the league's hottest team?

The Toronto Maple Leafs have been one of the streakiest teams in the league since the turn of the new year, while Wednesday's opponents, the Colorado Avalanche, have been as hot as a car hood exposed to the desert sun.

The Stanley Cup odds contenders have won eight of nine entering Thursday's contest against the Maple Leafs at the Scotiabank Arena. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. ET (TNT/Max).

Our Avalanche vs. Maple Leafs prediction and picks go against the grain, expecting the streaky Buds to score an important victory against Jared Bednar's high-fliers while featuring Auston Matthews, Nathan MacKinnon, and Matthew Knies.

📊 Avalanche vs. Maple Leafs pick & odds: Who will win tonight's NHL matchup?

As of 8 a.m. ET, the Avalanche are the -122 favorites to beat the Maple Leafs in tonight's matchup from Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. I'm predicting the Maple Leafs win in a game with six goals or fewer.

🎯 Avalanche vs. Maple Leafs score prediction: Maple Leafs 3, Avalanche 2

I might be dating myself here, but the Maple Leafs have been as streaky as Will Ferrell in "Old School." For a month after the turn of the new year, the Buds alternated three-game winning and losing streaks, collecting two of each.

After the 4 Nations, they got as hot as new celebrity couple Tanner Buchanan and Mary Mouser (whoever they are), winning five in a row. Their good fortunes shifted quickly, with the Buds losing five of six before their 6-2 win over Calgary on Monday.

While beating the Flames at home is nothing to chest bump over, the dominant fashion in which the victory occurred should inject the collective, particularly their most dangerous hired guns, with confidence.

While I'm certainly no oracle, I feel like that game was the start of a new hot streak. Chris Tanev has been back for three games and should be ready to elevate to his smothering best, adding to my confidence level. They'll also want to make up for unraveling in Colorado after enjoying the run of play in the first half of the contest.

Meanwhile, the Avalanche got an extra day off after outlasting the Dallas Stars 4-3 in overtime. They imploded in the final 10 minutes, coughing up a two-goal lead. Yes, they prevailed and are the league's in-form team, but traveling across the continent on an extra day off after enduring an emotional rollercoaster sounds like a letdown spot to me.

Plus, they have been bouncing back and forth between the road and home like a pinball over the last week. bet365 offers the best price of our top betting sites

Speaking of streaky, Matthews is one of the streakiest elite goal-scorers, and he has three in his last two games. We'll see in due course whether he'll overwork the red goal light in the coming games, but I like his chances considering how well he played against the Flames, scoring twice.

I don't have to remind anyone how critical the next month is, so seeing Matthews go on a tear before the postseason seems fitting. Plus, he's playing at home, where he has 17 goals in 24 outings. Compare that to his nine in 28 in hostile environments.

📊 Best Auston Matthews prop bet odds

🏒 Best Nathan MacKinnon prop pick: Over 1.5 points ⭐⭐⭐

Best odds: +120 via bet365 ($10 to win $12)

I'm the first to admit the risky nature of this bet, considering I don't think the Avs will score more than twice. It certainly doesn't allow much margin for error. However, if I'm wrong about the Avs having an off game, the most likely person to explode is the Avs' Hart Trophy odds contender.

Even if I'm right and the Avalanche only score twice, there's still a decent chance MacKinnon is involved in both. MacKinnon feeds on the Maple Leafs like a starving vampire on an exposed neck, amassing seven points in his last three games against the Buds. If Toronto can stop him, it hasn't proved it recently.

📊 Best Nathan MacKinnon prop bet odds

🏒 Best Matthew Knies prop pick: Over 0.5 points ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Best odds: -106 via FanDuel ($10 to win $9.43)

Matthew to Matthews is how I envision it going down. Knies posted a point in seven of the last 10 games and has two assists versus Colorado in three games. Knies has benefitted from playing alongside two of the most potent offensive players in the game, Matthews and Mitch Marner.

He has 17 points in the last 19 games, and his influential on-ice play supports his recent point-per-game clip.
