Canucks vs. Devils Prediction Tonight: NHL Player Props, Score Pick & Odds for March 24

Hope is a dwindling resource in the Pacific Northwest with the Vancouver Canucks struggling to make up ground in the Western Conference playoff push.
While tonight's game in New Jersey against the inconsistent Devils isn't a must-win, we're inching closer to that scenario for Rick Tocchet's team, which has lost three of the last four and trails the sizzling St. Louis Blues by five points.
Our Canucks vs. Devils prediction and picks expect a dogged defensive struggle while featuring three appealing player props in tonight's matchup.

🎯 Canucks vs. Devils score prediction: Devils 3, Canucks 2
In a desperately disappointing season, it appears the Canucks are running on an empty tank as they hit the final straightaway. While there's some good news regarding the seemingly perpetually injured Thatcher Demko, Saturday's injuries to Elias Pettersson and Nils Hoglander are the latest blow to Vancouver's sputtering playoff hopes.
Demko might start on Monday, but Pettersson probably won't. Hoglander is also listed as day-to-day, and the jury is out on whether he'll suit up. Regardless of who plays in goal, this game has all the hallmarks of a defensive doozy.
Vancouver is as desperate as desperate gets. Despite exploding for 12 goals in the last three games, they must prioritize defence to take anything from New Jersey.
Meanwhile, the Devils have scored more than three goals once in the last 12 games, with eight of those games occurring since Jack Hughes' season-ending injury. They have mustered the sixth-fewest goals per game since Feb. 12 (2.42).
Jacob Markstrom, who is 12-6-2 against the Canucks since leaving Vancouver, should get the nod in goal. He shut out the Canucks earlier in the season, his only game against his former team as a Devil. Vancouver has scored the eighth-fewest (2.69) since Feb. 8, providing more motivation to pull the trigger on the Under.
Best bet: Under 5.5 goals (-130 via Caesars)

The only thing I don't like about this pick is the pricey odds, which come in at -145. DraftKings offers the best odds of our top sportsbooks. Bratt leads the Devils with 61 helpers in 71 games, registering eight in the last six games. He notched an assist in the previous game against the Ottawa Senators and has a helper in each of the last two against Vancouver.
Bratt posted four points in the previous three against the Canucks, two of which were goals. While goals should be at a premium, Bratt contributed to 11 of the Devils' last 18, equating to a point on 61%.

🏒 Best Nico Hischier prop pick: Over 0.5 assists ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Unlike Bratt's odds, I love the plus-money price on Hischier to set up a teammate. He has an assist in three of the last five games and will need to take more of an offensive impetus without Hughes. He's gotten off to a good start on that front, registering nine points in as many games without the team's talisman.
With 30 goals and 26 assists, there's a slightly better chance he lights the lamp. But it's a pretty even split recently, so I'm opting for the better potential payout. Hischier has had three assists in the last three meetings against Vancouver, and I'm hoping he can extend it to four.

🏒 Best Quinn Hughes prop pick: Over 2.5 shots ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Hughes is under an even brighter, more oppressive spotlight in Vancouver, particularly with the recent injuries to Pettersson and Hoglander. He's a lead-by-example kind of captain, and I expect him to rise to the occasion against his brother (the healthy one, that is) in Newark. Hughes fired nine shots on goal against the New York Rangers on Saturday. Yes, I did say nine.
The offensive defenseman hit the Over on this prop in three of the last four games against the Devils and two of the previous four overall.
