A gauntlet is defined as a challenge or a form of punishment. While I'm not sure what John Tortorella did to NHL schedule makers, his Philadelphia Flyers got the short end of the stick with their recent patch against Carolina, Washington, Dallas, and Tampa Bay twice.

Things don't get much easier on Tuesday when the Flyers face the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena (7 p.m. ET, ESPN+) to end an unforgiving stretch against Stanley Cup odds contenders.

Matthews is coming off a two-point performance in Nashville. While that's promising, I'm more interested in his historical success against the Flyers. I have no doubt the Maple Leafs' sniper circles these games on his calendar, as he has 11 points in the last five games against Philly, including four in two this season.

Entering Tuesday's game, he posted at least two points in five straight against the Flyers. With an extra day's rest and the playoffs approaching, I'm confident he'll rise to the occasion again.
