Colombia vs. Japan predictions, expert picks & best bets

Japan got off to a dominant start to the SheBelieves Cup, easily dispatching Australia by a score of 4-0. The result was the opposite for Colombia, whose debut in the tournament ended in defeat at the hands of the United States, 2-0. These two nations now face off for the first time since last summer.

Las Cafeteras deserved more from their game against the U.S., which is why I'm predicting them to get on the scoresheet as Colombia vs. Japan will end in a draw at the 2025 SheBelieves Cup:

🏆 Pick to win Colombia vs. Japan: Draw (+300 via FanDuel) ⭐⭐⭐

As I alluded to above, Colombia deserved more from its match against the host nation. Las Cafeteras managed to nearly match the shooting output of the No. 1 team in the world during its 2-0 loss to the United States. The only issue was Colombia failed to hit the target and capitalize on multiple fantastic chances it created.

Much like Las Cafeteras' matchday one opponent, Japan is incredibly disciplined. Nils Nielsen's group prides itself on its tactical adeptness, which led to Australia managing just one shot on 41% possession, as the former coasted to a 4-0 victory.

Colombia poses a much bigger threat than the Matildas, who were without taliswoman Sam Kerr in the contest. The lowest-rated team in this tournament - according to FIFA rankings - will prove to be a handful to the favorites if afforded similar possession numbers to Australia. Linda Caicedo and Mayra Ramirez might be the most clinical attacking duo at this tournament full stop.

These sides drew 1-1 in a friendly before the 2024 Summer Olympics, so we'll predict a similar result this afternoon. Betting on the favorites at their heavily juiced odds is a risk we're not willing to take, given Colombia's attacking prowess. Thus, we'll take a flier on a draw at three-star confidence and hope for a 3:1 return on investment at our best sports betting sites.

⚽️ Best goalscorer bet: Mayra Ramirez (+450 via FanDuel) ⭐⭐⭐

Ramirez was the biggest goal threat for Colombia in its SheBelieves Cup debut against the seven-time winners. While she didn't manage a shot on target, she got into position to fire two attempts near Jane Campbell's net and should have arguably put away one of the chances.

Ramirez was the lone goalscorer for Las Cafeteras against Japan in their last meeting. Her physical nature poses issues for the best defenders in the world, as she's shown on the international stage (see photo above) and the Women's Super League. Ramirez also has anywhere from two to five inches on the entire Japanese backline, so her aerial advantage could come into play, as well.

We'll back Ramirez to get on the scoresheet given her technical ability, especially at such favorable odds.

2025 SheBelieves Cup AI picks & predictions

We asked ChatGPT, the popular chatbot from OpenAI, for its Colombia vs. Japan AI predictions - including its pick to win and best goalscorer bet. Note that ChatGPT is a large language model and is not specifically designed for sports betting predictions.

🤖 ChatGPT's pick to win: Japan (-175 via FanDuel)

"Japan’s quality and momentum from their previous match might see them edge out a victory, but Colombia will likely put up a fight and may score. Colombia 1-2 Japan"

🎱 ChatGPT's pick to score: Mina Tanaka (+170 via FanDuel)

"After her standout performances in previous games, including a brace, Tanaka is likely to be one of Japan’s key scorers. She's clinical in front of goal and a consistent performer for the team."

2025 SheBelieves Cup odds & favorites

While there is no futures market for the 2025 SheBelieves Cup, it's assumed the United States is the favorite heading into the tournament. The Stars and Stripes have won seven of the nine events since its inception in 2016. Only France (2017) and England (2019) have successfully dethroned the perennial hosts.

The U.S. has won the last five tournaments, and as the No. 1 team in the FIFA World Rankings, it'll be expected to add to that tally. Japan (No. 8), Australia (No. 15), and Colombia (No. 21) will also compete for the trophy.

Japan's best finish in the SheBelieves Cup is second (2023); Colombia is appearing for the first time.
